Count the openings on top of the chimney if you can see them from the yard. One flue, two flues, or a metal pipe through a box each lead to a different cap and a different quote.
Include the street address so we can confirm service. Cayce crosses a county line, so neighbors can have different county offices.
864-727-7460 ↗Pricing factors
We do not publish a flat price for chimney cap installation because the cap is sized to your flue. These are the things that move the quote up or down.
We give you the quote after measuring, with the cap type and material written down for each opening.
One clay tile takes a single-flue cap. Two or more tiles close together usually take one larger top-mount cap.
Round, square and rectangular tiles take different caps. Oversized or odd tiles may need a cap made to order.
Galvanized costs least and rusts first. Stainless lasts longer. Copper costs the most and is chosen for looks.
Roof pitch, chimney height and the number of stories change the setup time.
A cracked crown or loose tile has to be dealt with before a cap can be anchored.
Two or more flues
A multi-flue cap is one hood that covers several flue tiles at once. It sits on the crown, with mesh walls around all the tiles, and is fastened to the masonry. On a chimney where the tiles sit close together, one cap is neater and easier to keep tight than two or three separate caps.
Before recommending a multi-flue cap, we check two things. First, every flue under it must be suited to that cap. A gas appliance vent needs a listed vent cap under the fuel gas rules in 2021 IRC Chapter 24, Fuel Gas, so we may leave that flue with its own termination and fit the multi-flue cap around the others. Second, the hood must sit high enough that the tallest tile still has room to draft.
The 2021 International Residential Code model text in 2021 IRC Chapter 10, Chimneys and Fireplaces describes the spark arrestor screen on a wood-burning flue: an open area at least four times the flue outlet, mesh openings between three-eighths and one-half inch, and a screen or cap that can be removed for cleaning. A multi-flue cap that covers a fireplace flue has to meet that open-area test for the fireplace.

Under the cap
The crown is the sloped top of a masonry chimney, and the model code calls it a cap too. It sheds water away from the flue tiles and the brick. A metal flue cap protects the opening; the crown protects the rest of the top. If the crown has wide cracks or has pulled away from the tiles, water reaches the brick even with a new metal cap.
We check the crown during the cap measurement. Small hairline cracks may only need sealing. A broken crown means masonry repair before or with the cap, and we explain what we found so the decision is yours. Our South Carolina chimney services hub covers crown and masonry repairs.

City and county
The Census Bureau lists Cayce city in both Lexington and Richland counties. That does not change the cap, but it changes which county office you would call with property questions. Ask the City directly before work if you want a firm answer. Check with the office for your address before authorizing work.
The State's National Register list for Lexington County includes the William J. Cayce House. A National Register listing on its own does not say anything about review of exterior work, and the list says most such properties are privately owned. If you own a listed house, ask the City or county about design review before choosing a cap style.

Because the size and number of flues drive the price, and photos from the ground rarely show tile size accurately. A guess that turns out wrong wastes your time. We measure first, then quote. Measuring also catches a loose tile or cracked crown that would change the job, so the quote reflects what is actually on the roof.
It depends on the spacing and what the flues serve. When solid-fuel tiles sit close together, one top-mount cap is usually tidier and stays tight. When a gas appliance shares the chimney, that vent keeps its own listed cap and the rest can share a hood.
A chimney crown is the sloped concrete, metal or stone top that sheds water off a masonry chimney. The model code calls for a drip edge and a bond break around the flue liners. A cracked crown lets water into the brick even when the metal cap is new.
Paint slows rust for a while, but heat and soot break it down. For a cap you do not want to replace again soon, stainless steel is the better choice. We will tell you the material options in the quote.
For a single cap on a sound chimney, the installation itself is usually short once the technician is set up on the roof. Access, height and crown condition add time. Ask about the expected visit length when you get the quote.
