864-727-7460 ↗Location
The City of Orangeburg describes itself as 37 miles southeast of the State Capitol and 8.3 square miles in area.
That figure comes from the City's City of Orangeburg, About page. We mention it because Orangeburg is farther from Columbia than most Midlands addresses on our list, so confirming service and timing for your street matters before you plan around a visit.
The Census Bureau lists Orangeburg city in Orangeburg County. Local rules for city addresses come from the City, and for addresses outside city limits from the county. Check with the office for your address before authorizing work.
Historic districts
The State's National Register Sites in Orangeburg County, SC list includes the Orangeburg Downtown Historic District, the Ellis Avenue Historic District, the East Russell Street Area Historic District, the Amelia Street Historic District, and campus districts at Claflin College and South Carolina State College. National Register listing recognizes historic value; it does not by itself set rules for homeowners.
If your house is in one of those districts, call the City before choosing a cap and ask whether any local review applies. Ask about the cap's style and finish at the same time.

Owners and managers
The person who owns the property approves the work. If you are a tenant who noticed a missing cap, water in the fireplace, or animal noises, tell the landlord or manager and ask them to call 864-727-7460. If you manage several properties, we can quote each address separately so the owner can approve. Include the owner's name and the best contact for access with each address, because a roof visit cannot be scheduled until both are known. Tenants should still report water or animal noises right away, even if approval takes a few days.
Tenants should not use a fireplace with a missing cap, a nest, or water in the firebox until it has been checked. If a gas appliance vent cap is missing or damaged, the appliance should stay off.
Report it to the owner or manager; do not go on the roof.

Cap types
The flue decides. A wood fireplace flue takes a screened cap with a spark arrestor. The 2021 International Residential Code model text in 2021 IRC Chapter 10, Chimneys and Fireplaces describes an open area at least four times the flue outlet, openings between three-eighths and one-half inch, and a screen or cap that comes off for cleaning. A gas furnace, water heater or gas fireplace vent takes a listed vent cap under 2021 IRC Chapter 24, Fuel Gas, never a mesh cap or improvised cover. A sided chase takes a chase cover and the termination made for the chimney pipe. On a rental with several fireplaces, each flue is listed separately on the quote so the owner can approve them one by one.

Year-round rain
Do not wait for winter. The South Carolina State Climatology Office describes rain distributed across the year in South Carolina with no wet or dry season, and peaks in March and July. A flue that has been open all summer may already have a rusted damper or soaked smoke chamber by the time the first fire is planned. We look at the damper when we measure for the cap. A damper that no longer closes also lets conditioned air escape up the flue between fires, which is one more reason to look at it during the cap visit. If the damper is rusted shut or will not seal, we tell you, and a top-sealing damper cap is one option we can quote alongside a standard cap.
Pricing factors
For an Orangeburg property, each flue is priced by its size and what it serves: a screened cap for a fireplace flue, a listed vent cap for a gas appliance, or a chase cover and termination for a sided chase. Material, crown or damper condition, and roof access also change the quote. Distance from Columbia can affect scheduling, so confirm the address early. We quote after measuring.

You can start the conversation, but the property owner has to approve the work and roof access. Ask your landlord or manager to call us or send written approval. Until then, avoid using a fireplace with a missing cap.
Orangeburg is about 37 miles from the State Capitol by the City's own description. Call 864-727-7460 with the address, and we will confirm whether and when we can serve it.
It matters only if your address is inside a district that has local review rules. Near a district is not the same as in one. Call the City with your address and ask before choosing a visible cap.
Yes. Rain falling down an open flue lands on the steel damper plate and rusts it until it sticks or will not seal. A cap stops that water at the top. We check the damper when we measure.
No. The cap is chosen by the flue and fuel, not the neighborhood. If the property is in a listed district, the only difference is checking local rules about appearance first.
Yes, written approval by email from the owner or authorized manager is fine, as long as it names the address and the work. We send the quote to the same person. Tenants get a heads-up about the visit through the manager.
