Because Wade Hampton is a community within Greenville County rather than a town, the street address is how we confirm the visit.
Brick or siding on the chimney, plus a count of the pipes or tiles poking out the top, is the most useful detail you can give us.

How Is a Chase Cover Different From a Chimney Cap in Wade Hampton?
If your house has a chimney that is a wood-framed box clad in siding rather than solid brick, that is called a chase, and it is capped differently.
Inside a chase is a metal flue pipe from a factory-built fireplace. The top of the box is closed with a chase cover, a sheet-metal lid with a hole for the pipe. The pipe itself ends in a termination cap that belongs to the same chimney system. So a framed chimney has two parts at the top where a brick chimney has one.
Chase covers fail by rusting or by sagging until water pools in the middle. That water can run through a rusted seam into the framing and show up as stains on an interior wall or ceiling. A replacement cover sized to the chase, with a slope or crown that sheds water and a raised collar around the pipe, solves the problem when the framing is still sound.

Under the siding
What Does an Unfinished Chimney Chase Look Like Before the Cap Goes On?
The photo below shows a chase during construction: wood framing wrapped in green sheathing, before siding and before any cover. It explains why water on a chase top matters. Once the cover leaks, the water reaches wood, not brick.
If we find soft sheathing or rot when replacing a chase cover, we stop and show you before going further. Framing repair is a separate decision from the cover itself, and we do not fold it into a cap visit without your say.

Brick chimneys
Which Chimney Cap Fits a Brick Chimney in Wade Hampton?
A brick chimney with one clay flue tile above the crown takes a single-flue cap, fastened to the tile. Several tiles close together, or tiles flush with the crown, may call for a cap that covers the entire crown. The Chimney Safety Institute of America homeowner guidance describes a well-designed cap as one that keeps out rain and animals and acts as a spark arrestor, and those three jobs decide the screen size and lid shape.
A gas furnace or water heater vent coming through the roof or the chimney needs a cap listed for that vent. That rule comes from the 2021 International Residential Code, a model code,, and it means we never put a wood-fireplace screen over a gas vent. When a house has both a brick fireplace chimney and a separate gas vent, each one is handled on its own terms.
County rules
Do You Need a County Permit for a Chimney Cap in Wade Hampton?
As an unincorporated census designated place, Wade Hampton has no city permit office. Greenville County's Permit Center processes residential building permits for the area. Ask the county whether your scope needs approval.
Replacing chase framing or rebuilding a masonry crown goes beyond a cap, and those are where that question matters most. Greenville County's historic preservation review applies to designated properties and districts only.
Warning signs
When Should a Wade Hampton Homeowner Replace a Chimney Cap or Chase Cover?
Rust streaks down siding below the chase top, a cover that looks dished, a termination cap that leans or is missing, stains on a wall next to the fireplace, or water on the firebox floor after rain. On brick chimneys, a cap that rattles in wind or a torn screen. Any of these can be judged from a photo taken in the yard; please do not climb onto the roof. If an animal may be in the flue, keep the damper shut and call us before lighting a fire.
A cover that has rusted through in one spot may be thin in others, so we check the whole surface rather than patching a single hole.
Cover materials
Which Chase Cover Material Holds Up Best in Wade Hampton?
If your cover is galvanized steel, check the seams and the flue collar first, since that is where rust tends to show. Stainless steel resists that corrosion far longer, and a powder-coated stainless cover can be ordered in black or another color to match the trim. Copper is an option where the chase is a visible feature.
Shape matters as much as metal. A flat cover holds water; a cover with a cross-break, slope or raised center sheds it. The collar around the flue pipe should stand up from the surface so water cannot run straight into the opening, and a drip edge on the sides keeps water off the siding.
Cost factors
What Affects Chimney Cap Installation Cost in Wade Hampton?
For chase covers, the chase dimensions, metal choice and whether the termination cap also needs replacing. For brick chimneys, flue count and size, cap style and any crown repair. Roof height and pitch affect both. Our chimney cap installation guide page covers cap types in more detail, or call 864-727-7460 to go over your chimney.

What is the metal lid on top of my sided chimney?
That is a chase cover. It seals the top of a framed chimney and has an opening for the flue pipe. The pipe itself has a separate termination cap.
Why does my chase cover have rust stains running down the siding?
The cover is corroding, and water may be pooling on it. Over time it can leak into the framing below. A new stainless cover with a slope that sheds water can fix it if the framing is sound.
Can I replace only the termination cap and keep the chase cover?
Sometimes, if the cover is in good shape. The termination cap must be the one designed for your chimney system. We check both parts before recommending a single replacement.
Is Wade Hampton a city with its own building department?
It is a census designated place, not a municipality, so building permits come from Greenville County. For bigger chimney work, ask the county whether approval is needed.
Will a new chase cover stop water stains on my interior wall?
If the stain comes from a leaking cover, yes. Stains can also come from flashing or siding gaps around the chase. We look at those areas too before saying the cover alone will fix it.
